What is a Baby Shower Theme and How to Pick one

How to Pick a Baby Shower Theme

Baby showers are often given a specific theme.  This gives everyone the opportunity to make creative decorations, cakes, and food unique to this desired theme.

baby shower theme ideas

Having a theme picked also makes decorating for the event easier. The only problem we have is that picking a baby shower theme can be a difficult task because there are so many wonderful ideas out there.  Inquiring what the expectant mom prefers is usually the best way to get an idea for a theme, but if the baby shower is a surprise, pick the one that may suit the mom-to-be the best.

Ask a Set of Questions

When choosing a baby shower theme, write down a set of questions.  For instance, is mommy-to-be a fan of anything? Does she like any particular animal? Does she like a particular color? Does she know the sex of the baby? If she knows the sex of the baby, you may choose to go with a particular color laid within the décor.  Pink or blue balloons, streamers, and even candy favors add that special touch so that party-goers can also be aware of the sex of the baby.

Here are some questions you could ask her:

  1. Is mom-to-be a fan of anything?
  2. Is there a particular animal she likes?
  3. Does she like a particular color?
  4. What is the theme of the baby nursery?
  5. Does she know the sex of the baby?

Combining Two Themes

While keeping the color theme, you can interlace this with other themes such as a rubber ducky theme.  Rubber duckies are a popular baby shower theme since most baby’s development is stimulated by the vibrant color, and they are soothed while teething away at the rubber material.

So, rather than a classic yellow duck theme, you may choose to have a blue or pink duck theme. Rubber ducky toys can be chosen for decorative keepsake wreaths or creative diaper cakes.  Diaper cakes are becoming more popular, and most parents will keep them as a decorative item while others utilize the diapers that make up the cake.

Since some people choose to display diaper cake over an edible cake, a diaper theme is a great option and you can personalize it with a chosen theme by matching the color of the ribbon and accessories that goes with the cake.

This diaper cake can serve as a magnificent centerpiece for those special events. Maybe even have a fun game, such as pin the diaper on the baby (a twist on pin the tail on the donkey).  For gifts, no parent can have too many diapers, and so intertwine the theme with the gifts, as well.  Hanging a clothesline around the venue with diapers draping beautifully on the walls adds an extra touch of creative decoration.

Toys and Books

Maybe the mom-to-be has all of the diapers she will ever need, and she just wants to give her child some educational and fun-filled toys and books. Toys and books are great as they can serve as a great distraction for many moms to get things done around the house.

Theme Based on Baby Nursery

Still can’t decide on a theme? We can pick a baby shower theme another way! Ask the mommy-to-be if they have decided on the decoration for the baby nursery. Will it have animals? Will it be a woodland baby nursery? You can choose the theme based on the baby nursery.

This idea makes the entire event more relaxed for everyone involved, but some expectant mothers may simply prefer a meal with her closest friends to the extravagance of a shower. Taking the fun to a restaurant is a relaxed theme that allows for plenty of chatter and a full belly for that hungry woman due any day now.  Some restaurants have private rooms for a decent price to make the event even more special so that everyone at the party may hear the conversation without having to shout over a crowd of people.

Conclusion

Whether the expectant mom prefers something elegant or a day at the spa, having a theme can be fun. You may even find yourself planning and purchasing supplies a lot easier. This is because everything at the party is centered on the theme, so once a color for the theme is set, you would know what you need to look out for. This also creates a memorable and very special day to remember. The mom-to-be and the guests can always remember that special party held just for her little bundle of joy!

These game ideas are also perfect for co-ed baby shower guests! Don’t forget to prepare some favors for the winners!

Fun Minute to Win It Co-ed Baby Shower Games

Baby Rattle Minute to Win It

The first minute to win it baby shower game on our list is called Baby Raffle. This game can be very entertaining especially for a coed baby shower and even more so if kids are in attendance!

To start the game, split into two teams. Decide who goes first from each team. The goal of this game is for players to transfer all gumballs from one soda bottle to another. Give a point for the winner! Repeat until everyone takes a turn.

Baby Whispers!

Yes, that’s right! This is the game you may have played when you were a child! Have 3 people in each team. The host will only tell the first person what they need to draw. Whether it be a duck, a baby crying, the first person will start drawing on the second person’s back. The second person will need to try to copy the drawing of the person that is drawing on their back! The last person who is leaning against the wall will try to mimic what they think is being drawn on them and guess what it is! If they cannot guess it, the second person can try to guess it!

Diaper Pong Minute to Win It

To start the game, split into two teams. Make sure you’ve got the diapers set up with points labeled clearly on each of them.
For the 1st round, have each player throw two balls. The player from each team with the highest score advances.
For the 2nd round, repeat to find two more players to advance to the final stage.
In the 3rd and final stage, the 4 players throw two balls and the highest score wins.

Ping Pong Bounce Minute to Win It

Ping Pong Bounce game requires a long table, a baby bathtub, and ping pong balls. Fill the baby bathtub with water and place it at one end of the table. Put the ping pong balls in a bucket or container and place them at the other end of the table, opposite the bathtub. The goal is to get as many ping pong balls into the bathtub before time runs out!

Ping Pong Bounce Minute to Win It coed baby shower game

Extra challenge: instead of a baby bathtub, you can place small plastic dishes (think sundae bowls, anything that floats) on a large water-filled container. The objective is to bounce the ping pong balls into the floating targets!

Sugar Baby Minute to Win It

Another fun Minute to Win it baby shower game is Sugar Baby. For this game, you will need to find letter-shaped candy or gummies (like these ones). You will also need a big bowl filled with sugar, a plastic spoon, and a disposable tablecloth to make your life easier.

Sugar Baby Minute to Win It
  1. The first step is to cover the playing field with that plastic tablecloth – trust me.
  2. The second step is to pick out enough candy letters to spell the word “baby”, or any chosen word or name. Then, bury those letters into the sugar bowl.
  3. The third step is to make your friends play, and laugh hysterically.

The players must pinch the plastic spoon between their teeth, search through the sugar, and fish out the letters. They can only use the spoon so it’s helpful to have them hold their hands behind their back to avoid the temptation of grabbing the bowl. The first or fastest one to dig out all four letters is the winner!

Extra challenge: rather than just fishing the letters out of the bowl, have your players use the spoon in their teeth to arrange the letters on the table to spell “baby” correctly!

Sugar Baby Minute to Win It

Dizzy Diaper Minute to Win It

Another game is called Dizzy Diaper. All you will need to play this game is a roll of toilet paper and two players with a good sense of humor! Player 1 will hold the roll of toilet paper on a holder. Player 2 will take the end of the toilet paper in their hand. When the round starts, player 2 must start spinning around and wrap themselves in the toilet paper – preferably around the lower half of their body! The fastest or first team to successfully wrap their player in a toilet paper diaper wins!

Extra challenge: Tuck the end of the toilet paper into Player 2’s waistband instead of having them hold it in their hands. Have them also tuck their arms in. So if the toilet paper breaks, Player 1 has to help them start wrapping again!

Pop it BABY Minute to Win It

The final game to jazz up your baby shower is Pop it BABY. Before the guests arrive, write out the letters B-A-B-Y on separate slips of paper and stuff each of them into their own balloons. Inflate the balloons, and be sure to keep them appropriately grouped together.

Pop balloon the BABY Minute to Win It

Your players must pair up and try to pop the balloons using only their heads to get the letters inside! Once they have popped all the balloons and collected all the letters, they will need to arrange them in the correct order to win. For a simpler option, you can ask the players to sit on the balloons to pop.

Extra challenge: You can ask the guests to spell out different words for different rounds of the game. Just be sure to keep the number of balloons the same and keep the word fairly simple. For example, spell out “baby” in one group of balloons and “girl” in another. This way, every player has to figure out a new word puzzle!

Ballerina in Paris Party

Ballerina in Paris Baby Shower Tablescape

Party themes aren’t just singularly focused anymore, making for a much more personalized experience for all involved. Recently, party planner Susan Driver put this idea into motion with a “Ballerina in Paris” party full of unforgettable aesthetics. Décor was a marriage of petite pretty and breathtaking exquisiteness all in one, merging pale pinks, delicious aromas of big, fluffy roses, and gorgeous desserts to die for.

Tables were put together to create one long banquet set-up, covered in glittery pink tablecloths. A long bouquet of balloons cascaded down the middle, creating a beautiful centerpiece lined with tiny tea roses, tall crystal chandeliers with twinkling gems, and a bouquet ball of roses tufted with pink tulle. Baby pink tableware and white chairs tied with tulle bows completed the magical set-up.

The entryway to the soiree was fantastical and elegant, with a barrage of balloons, flowers, and two life-sized mannequins—one dressed in a formal gold gown and the other dressed in the perfect ensemble for a world-renowned ballerina.

The dessert table over to the far side of the venue was just as amazing, complete with a white and pink curtained backdrop, topped with a gorgeous floral arrangement. The table itself was decked out with plenty of pink tulle and glitter, and plates of personalized bags and boxes of candies and cookies were laid out for all to enjoy.

Essential Decor Supplies For Any Baby Shower

Essential Decor Supplies For Any Baby Showe partyr

Are you or someone you know, expecting a new baby? A baby is a true blessing and should be celebrated at every stage. However, it’s so important to recognize and celebrate the mother-to-be as well, with a baby shower. It’s the perfect balance to kick off welcoming a new life as well as helping a mom out with some much-needed supplies and support.

Essential Decor Supplies For Any Baby Shower

When planning a baby shower for yourself or a loved one, you can become overwhelmed by all of the different colors, materials, and themes. Whether the new baby is a boy, girl, or a secret, throwing a baby shower doesn’t need to be so hard.

These days throwing a shower can be very exciting because of all the many themes you can choose from. There are so many beautiful baby shower decoration ideas in stores and online. When it comes to decorating, as long as you have the essentials below, you will surely have the most charming baby shower to celebrate a new baby on the way.

Mason Jars Decoration

One of the most significant areas of decorations for any celebration is the centerpieces. Your imagination can run wild in this category.

For any theme and decoration style, mason jars are the perfect solution. As an added bonus, they are budget-friendly, too!

One way you can use the jars is by tying a ribbon around the rim and filling them with fresh flowers. If you’re aiming for a festive and authentic look, you can also paint them, stain them, or cover them with glitter. While fresh flowers look great inside the jars, you don’t have to stop there.

There is an assortment of other items you can use and display in the jars as well to be more fitting to your theme. One idea starts by filling the jars about halfway with sand. Then, using wooden dowels, you can create tulle pom poms to glue to the ends and stick in the sand—a different twist to a classic floral centerpiece. Get creative and decorate the mason jars to show your desired theme and don’t forget neutral linens for the tables, too!

Picture Frames

The next item to have on hand when planning a baby shower is picture frames. If you want to display some of the baby’s keepsakes like the ultrasound pictures, they are an effortless way to share the images with your loved ones.

Frames are essential because they can be used for other functions, such as holding signs or displaying game ideas. If you need a decorative sign for your gift table, shower games, or the food menu for the shower, picture frames are an easy way to incorporate your themes into the smaller aspects of the event.

Also, if they don’t fit your desired look perfectly, they aren’t difficult to alter. You can paint and decorate them however you need — and even make a chalkboard out of them! To do this, all you need is chalk paint and a flat piece of cardboard. Remove the glass and use it to trace a cardboard piece. Cut the cardboard out, paint it, and replace it for the glass that was there originally. Then, reassemble the rest. Finding and purchasing picture frames is a non-complicated way to highlight elegance to the necessary areas of the shower.

Balloons

The goal for decorating is always to transform a space so that guests can feel comfortable and sense the effortlessness of the space and decorations. A perfect element to help with this are balloons.

They are an inexpensive party item that can assist in giving a grand display of the desired subject, colors, and atmosphere. Nowadays, there are elaborate balloon arches, walls, and more! Stringing some helium-filled balloons is a thing of the past because these beautiful looking balloon sculptures are not hard to make at all.

how to easily make a balloon arch
Plastic Arch Strip by Micollections2010

There are a few different ways to make a balloon arch on your own. There are techniques that use a plastic chain arch strip. If you can’t get hold of those strips, you can actually make them yourself, see the video below, or you can use another technique that uses paper clips and a fishing line. You can use UGlu tapes which is a double sided tape to fill spaces with smaller balloons.

First, blow up the balloons without helium, so they don’t fly away. Then, using a paperclip, feed the ends of four balloons through it. Do this until you have enough to thread the paper clips through the fishing line of the desired length. Use removable wall hooks to display and manipulate the shape on the wall perfectly. You can use the ballons as a photo backdrop or a focal point in the space!

Making Balloon Arch with Platic Chain Strip

Don’t get stressed seeing all the baby shower decoration options in party stores or online. Start with the essentials and then add more as you see fit. With mason jars, picture frames, and balloons, the baby shower will look perfectly decorated no matter the theme.

When starting with these items, you can prioritize some other important tasks like the guest list, invitations, and food. Many elements go into these celebrations and decorations shouldn’t be an area to get caught up on! Start with the necessities, but most of all, celebrate the baby and the mother-to-be!
