There’s no special recipe for a baby shower food and drinks menu. It usually depends on the audience and who is going to participate. Another aspect to consider is when the baby shower is taking place. Is it a warm afternoon, a lovely sunset, or a light dinner?

What Drink and Food to Serve at Baby Shower Party

When planning about what food to serve at the baby shower, think about the whole room full of guests. Are there only females? Or can you see some gentlemen, children, maybe old relatives? If it’s a mixed audience, then the food menu will be totally different from an all-female party for example.

Baby Shower Main Food Ideas

Dinner or main course is not necessary if you’re organizing an afternoon baby shower. However, if the party is extending beyond that, or will be held in the evening, then it will be mandatory to add a warm plate to your menu. There is no need to be overly sophisticated, just choose a soft warm dish like skewers, meatballs, or grill eggplant with tomatoes and cheese.

If you are dealing with a mixed audience, what food should you serve at a baby shower party? You can serve food such as spaghetti or pasta. They are the most popular modern dish for a baby shower. They are both filling and easy to eat, so your guests will be satisfied.

Baby Shower Food Ideas during Covid

Covid has made planning for food a little challenging, so what kind of food can we serve during such time to ensure everyone can enjoy the food whilst staying safe!

Food for Drive-by Baby Shower

If you are hosting a drive-by baby shower, you can have treats and snacks such as cupcakes and cookies pre-packaged in a nice transparent container. If you wanted to serve lunch, you could prepare boxes of sandwiches and drinks that guests could grab and go.

What Drink to Serve at Baby Shower

Alcohol or NOT Alcohol

A subject of discussion is whether to serve alcohol at a baby shower or not. In the end, it’s about personal decisions but nonalcoholic baby showers have disappeared slowly. As a courtesy, it is always good to ask the mom-to-be and reassure her that there will be other delicious drinks for her to enjoy such as fun fruity alcohol-free-punch made from blueberry or raspberry flavored drink. You could also have another one with alcohol for the guests.

Many years ago, a baby shower was something rather girly, but today, baby showers are more couple orientated, getting closer to a private party with baby-themed gifts, with food and drinks of all sorts.

creative baby shower drinks to serve

Female Drinks

Needless to say, the expectant mommy will not be partaking in alcoholic drinks so the rest of the female guests have the possibility to choose between virgin or alcoholic cocktails. If you have your own bar, buy ingredients for basic cocktails so if there’s a boy, you can easily prepare a blue swimming pool or a raspberry cocktail if it’s a baby girl. White wine combined with club soda is another solution for the ladies.

Male Drinks

The easiest to handle! For a casual baby shower, you can always welcome a man with a beer, but since it’s a special occasion it’s better to spoil the men too. So pick an elegant bottle of whiskey or try vodka-based cocktails. A good old red wine is also to be taken into consideration. Just think about what would make them comfortable.

Children Drinks

Raspberry lemonade or pink grapefruit lemonade are the most popular drinks for children. Strawberry milk may also be a fun choice. Little girls will be enchanted.

Don’t overload the menu, think about fresh, consistent ingredients and visually appealing recipes which will flatter the guests, feeling comfortable at the table.

Punch Drink Recipes

Serving Punch drinks at baby shower has always been a favorite for the mom-to-be and the guests. You can have floating ducks or any other baby plastic bath toys in a punch bowl to make it look like a baby bath. Bubbles created from floating scoops of vanilla ice cream (or use sherbet), and the froth from melted ice cream completes the baby bath theme punch. You can make a punch of a certain color to match your baby shower theme.

  • Raspberry Sherbert
  • Sprite, 7-up or Lemon Lime Soda
  • Cut strawberries

Instructions: Pour Sprite or Lemon Lime Soda over the sherbert in a punch bowl. Throw in the strawberries. Mix gently and serve! Add more sherbert if you prefer them thicker.

Foods to AVOID at Baby Shower

We’ve talked about what drink and food to serve at a baby shower party, so now, let’s discuss foods to avoid. This is very important because we want to ensure nothing happens to the unborn baby. And sometimes, even mom-to-be is not aware of what foods she can eat, so it is best that you as a host is aware of some dangers of certain foods.

food to avoid at baby shower events

Risk Foods for Mommy-to-be

Foods such as soft cheese including blue cheese, cured meat, raw or partially cooked food are risk food for mommy-to-be and are not recommended at all. These include sushi, salami, prosciutto, and chorizo. She may be okay that it is still served for the guests, but it would be nice to get her okay first.

Salami and Chorizo and many other cured meat can be cooked and still taste delicious so don’t think that Mommy-to-be needs to miss out. Have a separate plate for the cooked version just for her. If you are also serving salad, you would need to ensure they are washed thoroughly.

Pink and Blue Chocolate Waffles Recipe

New babies are SO much fun to celebrate! Back in the day, a new Mum and Dad would announce the news to family and friends, host a baby shower to celebrate, then eagerly wait until the big day when their little bundle arrived. These days, there’s typically another celebration thrown into the mix: gender reveal parties!

Gender reveal parties can be just as exciting as the initial pregnancy announcement! Somehow it makes the newest addition to the family seem that much more real, that much closer to arriving. And it’s so much fun to let yourself go overboard with all of the pastel pinks and baby blues afterward!

So what do you serve for food and drinks at a gender reveal party? Since they are a relatively new concept, proper etiquette hasn’t been established quite yet – which you can use to your advantage! It’s really up to you whether you serve a full meal, appetizers, or just snacks. But don’t forget the one thing you need for any party: dessert!
