Baby Shower Food Ideas

There’s no special recipe for a baby shower food and drinks menu. It usually depends on the audience and who is going to participate. Another aspect to consider is when the baby shower is taking place. Is it a warm afternoon, a lovely sunset, or a light dinner?

What Drink and Food to Serve at Baby Shower Party

When planning about what food to serve at the baby shower, think about the whole room full of guests. Are there only females? Or can you see some gentlemen, children, maybe old relatives? If it’s a mixed audience, then the food menu will be totally different from an all-female party for example.

Baby Shower Main Food Ideas

Dinner or main course is not necessary if you’re organizing an afternoon baby shower. However, if the party is extending beyond that, or will be held in the evening, then it will be mandatory to add a warm plate to your menu. There is no need to be overly sophisticated, just choose a soft warm dish like skewers, meatballs, or grill eggplant with tomatoes and cheese.

Baby Shower Menu for Co-ed

If you are dealing with a mixed audience, what food should you serve at a baby shower party? You can serve food such as spaghetti or pasta. They are the most popular modern dish for a baby shower. They are both filling and easy to eat, so your guests will be satisfied.

Baby Shower Main Course Food

Don’t limit yourself to only a cake, there are so many recipe ideas for dessert it would be a pity not to try them! Starting from cupcakes to pink or blue popcorn, cookies, cake pops, jelly, or the classic brownies. Gather them all and think about a nice decorated scenery. Baby Shower Food Ideas during Covid

Covid has made planning for food a little challenging, so what kind of food can we serve during such time to ensure everyone can enjoy the food whilst staying safe!

Food for Drive-by Baby Shower

If you are hosting a drive-by baby shower, you can have treats and snacks such as cupcakes and cookies pre-packaged in a nice transparent container. If you wanted to serve lunch, you could prepare boxes of sandwiches and drinks that guests could grab and go.

What Drink to Serve at Baby Shower

Alcohol or NOT Alcohol

A subject of discussion is whether to serve alcohol at a baby shower or not. In the end, it’s about personal decisions but nonalcoholic baby showers have disappeared slowly. As a courtesy, it is always good to ask the mom-to-be and reassure her that there will be other delicious drinks for her to enjoy such as fun fruity alcohol-free-punch made from blueberry or raspberry flavored drink. You could also have another one with alcohol for the guests.

Many years ago, a baby shower was something rather girly, but today, baby showers are more couple orientated, getting closer to a private party with baby-themed gifts, with food and drinks of all sorts.

creative baby shower drinks to serve

Female Drinks

Needless to say, the expectant mommy will not be partaking in alcoholic drinks so the rest of the female guests have the possibility to choose between virgin or alcoholic cocktails. If you have your own bar, buy ingredients for basic cocktails so if there’s a boy, you can easily prepare a blue swimming pool or a raspberry cocktail if it’s a baby girl. White wine combined with club soda is another solution for the ladies.

Male Drinks

The easiest to handle! For a casual baby shower, you can always welcome a man with a beer, but since it’s a special occasion it’s better to spoil the men too. So pick an elegant bottle of whiskey or try vodka-based cocktails. A good old red wine is also to be taken into consideration. Just think about what would make them comfortable.

Children Drinks

Raspberry lemonade or pink grapefruit lemonade are the most popular drinks for children. Strawberry milk may also be a fun choice. Little girls will be enchanted.

Don’t overload the menu, think about fresh, consistent ingredients and visually appealing recipes which will flatter the guests, feeling comfortable at the table.

Punch Drink Recipes

Serving Punch drinks at baby shower has always been a favorite for the mom-to-be and the guests. You can have floating ducks or any other baby plastic bath toys in a punch bowl to make it look like a baby bath. Bubbles created from floating scoops of vanilla ice cream (or use sherbet), and the froth from melted ice cream completes the baby bath theme punch. You can make a punch of a certain color to match your baby shower theme.

Easy Pink Punch Recipe

  • Raspberry Sherbert
  • Sprite, 7-up or Lemon Lime Soda
  • Cut strawberries

Instructions: Pour Sprite or Lemon Lime Soda over the sherbert in a punch bowl. Throw in the strawberries. Mix gently and serve! Add more sherbert if you prefer them thicker.

Foods to AVOID at Baby Shower

We’ve talked about what drink and food to serve at a baby shower party, so now, let’s discuss foods to avoid. This is very important because we want to ensure nothing happens to the unborn baby. And sometimes, even mom-to-be is not aware of what foods she can eat, so it is best that you as a host is aware of some dangers of certain foods.

food to avoid at baby shower events

Risk Foods for Mommy-to-be

Foods such as soft cheese including blue cheese, cured meat, raw or partially cooked food are risk food for mommy-to-be and are not recommended at all. These include sushi, salami, prosciutto, and chorizo. She may be okay that it is still served for the guests, but it would be nice to get her okay first.

Salami and Chorizo and many other cured meat can be cooked and still taste delicious so don’t think that Mommy-to-be needs to miss out. Have a separate plate for the cooked version just for her. If you are also serving salad, you would need to ensure they are washed thoroughly.

Modern and Unique Baby Shower Games

Baby-Van-Gogh-Blind-Pictionary-Challenge-drawing

The kinds of activities that the guests will participate in can either make or break the party. Because of this, here are a few modern and unique baby shower games to play on your next baby shower that will guarantee a fun and unforgettable time for everyone.

Don’t Drop the Baby!

For a more artistic take on the classic game, have your guests decorate an egg to make it look like a baby. And then, challenge them all to participate in a race, in which they have to carry their “egg baby” on a spoon held in their mouth. To make it even more fun, place a few obstacles on the course that they must maneuver through if they want to declare themselves the winner.

Baby Van Gogh

An underrated baby shower game, Baby Van Gogh involves paper plates and markers, both of which will be used by guests to sketch a picture of the baby. However, the catch is that the paper plate has to be placed on top of their head!

This mellow yet hilarious activity, along with the resulting illustrations, will definitely have you all in stitches.

Shit Happens Baby Shower Game

Dirty diapers are the bane of every parent’s existence, which is why they make for the perfect baby shower game – albeit with a few significant changes! To play this, put different kinds of melted chocolate in newborn-sized diapers, making them look like actual poop. Then, pass these around for people to lick and guess the candy brand.

Want to make it even ickier for your guests? Then, be sure to make use of chocolates with different textures, such as milky, nutty, creamy, and the like.

Bobbing for Pacifiers

Transform a Halloween favorite into one that your loved ones will enjoy during your baby shower! In this game, guests will be asked to try their luck capturing a pacifier while their hands are tied behind their back. If you want to take it one step further, then number the pacifiers, so that they correspond to a small prize.

Once the entire party is over, you can wrap up the pacifiers and give them to the mom-to-be, although make sure that you sterilize them first!

Make sure to play this game with hard-boiled eggs to avoid making a mess!

Pin the Sperm on the Uterus

This timeless children’s game is a staple in practically every birthday party, which is why bringing them to a baby shower will make for a fun activity, as well as a great conversation starter. This is rather self-explanatory; however, some guests may need a briefing on where exactly they should aim to land the sperm! This game is also perfect for a couples baby shower!

For another take on this game, have the mom-to-be place an egg onto the uterus. Whoever pins the sperm closest to it wins.

Funny Baby Shower Mad Libs

Mad Libs is an uproarious game to play, no matter the kind of party or the occasion being celebrated. Templates for these may be found online, although you can also opt to make your own for a more personalized feel to the activity.

When playing Baby Mad Libs, you can choose to either have each guest individually fill out their own or turn the game into a group effort. Regardless of which one you pick, the result will always be outrageously hilarious!

Labor or Horror Baby Shower Game

If you’re looking for a fun baby shower game that will have your guests rolling on the floor in laughter, then Labor or Horror is just the thing for you. To start, gather photos of horror film actresses screaming their heads off and place these in a PowerPoint presentation, alongside pictures of women giving birth. Each person will now have to guess what exactly the image is depicting.

Those who are open to make this activity a little more risqué can opt for photos of women in orgasmic photos. However, make sure that everyone in the baby shower is comfortable with this – after all, you don’t want to have guests walking out in a huff in the middle of the party.

Minute to Win it Baby Shower Game

Minute to Win it games are increasingly becoming popular baby shower games, thanks to how easy they are to arrange, as well as the fact that they don’t take up too much time. For your party, try playing “Blindfolded Change the Baby,” a game that involves trying to change a stuffed doll’s diaper as fast as possible blindfolded!

Or you can also opt for “Suck it Up,” wherein guests will be picking up mini marshmallows using a nose aspirator and dropping it into a jar or baby bottle. Naturally, whoever ends up with the most marshmallows wins!

Have you played any of these baby shower games before? What other fun activities are there to do in a baby shower? Let us know your comments down below – we’d love to hear from you!

What are Some Creative Ways to Display Cookies?

Swan Cookies Displaying on Easel

Cookies make an appearance at almost every baby shower. While cookies can be a work of art on their own, if you add an element of creative presentation guests will ooh and ahh over your tasty treats before they even take their first bite.

Creative Ways to Display Cookies

1. Mini Easels

Mini easels are an affordable and time-friendly way to take your cookie display to the next level. You can find miniature easels at major retailers such as Amazon or Walmart. Search for words like “Mini Natural Wood Display Easel”

4. Creative Packaging

Cookies make excellent party favors for guests to enjoy on the go. If you’re planning to use your cookies as party favors, consider using creative packaging to make your cookies a part of your dessert display.

A classic and affordable way to package cookies is to use clear cellophane bags. Cellophane bags make it easy to convert tasty creations into on-the-go party favors.

Instead of tying your bags shut with twist ties, consider using a ribbon that matches the rest of your party decor. Both the bags and ribbon can be purchased at just about any major retailer.

If you’re looking to take your cookie packaging to the next level, you might consider packaging your cookies to look like lollipops on a stick. Once your cookies are on sticks they can be placed in a bucket, wrapped in cellophane, or just simply laid out on a table for guests to enjoy.

The Pioneer Woman features directions on how to make adorable cookies on sticks.

Simple and Amazing Baby Shower Table Buffet Ideas

Baby Shower Table Buffet Ideas

When throwing a baby shower, we often have quite a lot of things to factor in to the equation. Much like throwing any other social gathering, you no doubt want to focus on the guests to ensure they have the best time they possibly can.

Baby Shower Table Buffet Ideas

Well, this means focusing on the things like the entertainment on offer and the food provided. That’s why you might wish to look at some of our baby shower table buffet ideas.

If you need some inspiration on picking stylish snacks and fantastic finger foods, try and focus on the following tips and ideas.

Choose a Theme

Before you do anything else, come up with a theme. For example, if you know the baby is going to be a boy, you might wish to go down the vintage ‘baby blue’ color scheme. The same goes if you know it is a girl. Then, you just need to find foods especially with the sweets that match-in with that color scheme, or add some paper toppers (picks) that will convey the theme.

Of course, you could even adjust the color of other foods by using some safe food dyes. Either way, a theme helps to dictate the entire experience!

Balance Savory and Sweet

Regardless of the theme, you should always look to try and find a balance between savory and sweet products. This is very important. For every little plate of little sausage rolls, pastries, and cheese bites, have a little bowl of popcorns, chewy treats, and the like.

Whether you want to have savory and sweet foods separated is another thing to consider. It is very popular these days to devote a table full of sweets only and another table for just the savory foods.

Try and focus on having as many mini foods as you can, too; this helps to make the buffet look even busier than normal.

Focus on the time of day

Another timing factor is the time of day you hold your baby shower. Therefore, your baby shower table buffet ideas should probably focus on that. If this is a morning or brunch buffet, then you want to get something that can enjoy a bit more simplistic food.

Every culture has its own approach to breakfast, but a fine mixture of things like yogurts, waffles, fruits, muffins and cupcakes, and – if you tend to go down this route – things like pancakes or even eggs can help to add a bit of extra depth to the food that is on offer.

Focusing on the time of the day is very important as it can play a pretty big role in making sure the experience is truly satisfying. It also helps you to avoid putting out foods that might not be eaten due to the time people have arrived at the shower.

Listen to your Guests

Before you commit to any foods, you should speak to the close circle of guests attending your shower. The reason why is that baby shower table buffet ideas should be based around what people need to avoid. For example, does anyone have a major nut allergy? If so, you might wish to avoid using nuts in any of the foods which are present on the buffet. You would also keep in mind about foods that mom-to-be should be avoiding during pregnancy.

A bit of planning around the potential risks to your guests can make sense. It can also be quite useful for making sure that nobody falls ill or has an adverse reaction to any of the food(s) which are being put out on the table.

So, focus on the baby shower table buffet ideas that can avoid foods with high allergy risks and what mom-to-be should avoid. Checking with guests for the presence of major allergies can also help to avoid any nasty surprises, too.

Back Up your Buffet with Liquids

From pots of tea to cans of soda, you should look to have as much liquid as you can. Naturally, filling out a table with bottles of water, kettles, teapots etc. can be very useful for making sure everyone who comes along can be well hydrated.

You don’t want to take any needless risks when it comes to having a ‘dry buffet’. Of course, for some baby showers, you might also wish to have a few ‘adult’ refreshments, so look out for some nice bottles of wine etc. you could put out there.

If nothing else, make sure you put out as much tea, coffee, and water as you can so that everyone who comes along can find a drink that suits their tastes. With all of that finger food and buffet eating, you want to avoid anything feeling like they are dried out!

Ensure it is self-serving

At a baby shower, one of the most forgotten baby shower table buffet ideas comes from ensuring it can be self-served. Ensure there are ample utensils and cutlery so that nobody is waiting around. And remember, the hosting team are part of the party, too; don’t have your buffet set up so that someone has to spend all evening standing serving.

You should try and build all of your baby shower table buffet ideas around having a lot of self-service so that people can come and go as they please. This might sound obvious, but it can have a pretty major impact on the quality of your buffet experience as a whole. Have a sign even setup to let guests know they can help themselves.

So, be sure to look at ensuring that the buffy can be self-serving as much as possible. It helps to keep things flowing and it ensures that nobody feels like a staff member as opposed to a guest.

Have some fun!

Lastly, remember that this is all about having some fun and enjoying the company of people wishing you well for the future. When taking on any baby shower table buffet ideas, always factor in the theme, the guests, and the time of the day; it is the easiest way to ensure a happy, positive experience for all who come along.
